I’ve reached the end of my rope with my truck and I’m ready to pull the plug. Had a breakdown away from home yesterday and had a fiasco just getting back home.

The Truck: 2004 F350 Quad Cab Lariat FX4 Dual – 153k – Clean Interior – Chassis has typical surface rust but not bad.

Good: Head bolts, EGR delete, standpipes and plugs, remaining HPOP, IPR, ICP, rear tires have all been replaced within the last 10k miles.

Bad: Even if all numbers on the scanguage look good upon starting the truck and running it for a few minutes, hot/cold, then IPR will rise to 85% and it will sputter and die. Then warm boot is a bit of a struggle, but will convert. I think the remaining HPOP could have failed, but I also had what I believe to be the injection problem: sputtering and bucking around 45mph when on the throttle. I also had it pressure tested a while back and a few injectors came back as not ideal.

I really don’t know if I have the energy/patience to fix this thing again. What do you think it would be worth in its current state? I think maybe 3k?

You are from a rust belt state, so the real problem will be bed ring rust, under door rust and corner cab rust.

Yes, it’s not nice with all the salt they throw on the roads in the winter. The body/cab is good, the rust is mainly on the frame rails.

I am tempted. But the transportation plus price is too much. Would love to take the drive Train and chassis and put under mine. Then scrap the rest for what I could find. But Ohio. It’s a trip from Fla. It would be nice though.

I think it would be worth fixing if you have another daily driver. Guys here will give all the help with diagnostics you need. But it’s your call. Wish you the best. Strength.

Well, it’s only since the kids we gave (ok sell really, really, cheap) our 90K 2000 Expy to, it amounted to 4 months…

I could get NO body here to take a 140K ’04 with a burnt piston, and all our normal fixes and total maintenance DONE. For half that price… I’m sure my friend’s mechanic who he sold it to for $2000 is smiling all the way to the bank… Personally, I’d take a non-rust truck and drop a damn engine ! YMMV and we are going to see a lot of these people as the age of our trucks ages…

Our granddaughter picked up the Escape we bought her within a year, curb, went turtle, telephone pole, all right. I did a lot of work on that vehicle. Luckily only a mild concussion.

Back then, Scott, I didn’t want another 6.0, I just didn’t. The timing and my mood were not in sync. Today, yes, I would have done what you suggest…

Contact Us – About Us – Manage Preferences – Archive – Advertising – Cookie Policy – Privacy Statement – Terms of Service – Do Not Sell My Personal Information – Zone Offroad Products continues to expand its leaf spring applications with new 6″ suspension systems designed specifically for the 1999- 2004 Ford F250/F350 Super Duty 4WD Trucks. After more than a year of development and testing, these lift kits are now available to provide the attitude, ride quality and off-road performance Super Duty owners are looking for without breaking the bank.

At the heart of these new 6″ lift systems are a pair of massive 9-leaf full-pack front leaf springs. By using thinner leaves of different lengths in this 9-leaf arrangement, the springs are designed with a smaller spring arc that offers a number of advantages that late model Super Duty owners can take advantage of. In addition to improving ride quality and handling, the springs are compressed under heavy loads for a progressive spring rate that allows these trucks to handle the added weight without sagging. These springs are ready for installation with reinstalled bushings and sleeves and offer a major improvement over most leaf springs on the market today. In combination with the rest of the Zone 6″ system it will provide impressive ride quality and overall performance. The 6″ systems use a pair of front leaf springs, heavy duty 1/4″ steel fabricated rail drop bracket, forged drop pitman arm, bump stop relocation brackets, replacement black e-coated u-bolts and your choice of Zone Hydro or Nitro shocks. At the rear, a pair of full height 5″ cast iron blocks replace the factory components in addition to additions to level the stance and improve cargo capacity. New longer u-bolts, center pins and rear shocks round out the kit for 2000-2004 models. For 1999 model trucks, replacement rear sway bar links are also required and are provided with the kit.

And the truck that Adam put together is truly special. He likes to say it’s an ’04/’05/’08 Ford F-350 King Ranch crew cab in Estate Green and Arizona Beige. Adam, from Baldwin, Florida, is an active contributor to competitiondiesel.com, powerstroke.org, and powerstrokenation.com, so if you go to any of these sites, you may already be familiar with this truck.

Adam uses the F-350 as his daily driver and “pig” as he calls it. The truck regularly pulls a backhoe to job sites and tows other trucks around. Power is plentiful with all the cool speed parts that Adam installed. Adam installed an AFE intake with a Bully Dog exhaust. The all-important programmer is an SCT X3 from Innovative Diesel. The King Ranch uses Casserly 190cc injectors and has a Cool Twist intercooler from City Diesel. A First Coast Diesel Performance coolant filtration system ensures no impurities enter the system and ARP struts keep things together. The long list of hop-up parts continues with an ITP regulated return, Fluidampr harmonic damper, fuel bowl delete, FASS 150/180 fuel pump, First Coast Diesel full EGR delete, seven Auto Meter gauges, Edge Insight, and more. To handle the estimated 900 lb-ft of torque, Adam uses a Torqshift 5R110 transmission with a BD Power pan.

The truck was lifted 3.5 inches using Fabtech equipment, including a Fabtech track bar. Bilstein 5100 shocks are installed at all four corners. Stage 2 traction bars from Farmboy Fabrications keep everything straight. Michelin XZE tires (235/80-22.5) are mounted on Alcoa Classic manual hole wheels with 8-to-10 air adapters from Dieselwheels.com.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: The tire/wheel fits provided are approximate. Actual measurements of a given tire size can vary significantly from one brand to another. Manufacturers’ wheel alignment and backspacing measurements are not always consistent. Backspacing has a big impact on tire-to-screen clearance when turning. Wheel width and back spacing affect whether the tires protrude beyond the fenders, and to what extent. Considering these important factors, we recommend that you match your tire/wheel selection before purchasing.
