2010 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually Lifted

2010 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually Lifted – For most people, the initials “HD” have everything to do with the fidelity of their televisions and nothing to do with cars. But for any Texas rancher — and a huge portion of Raptor buyers elsewhere in the country — these two letters mean the word that separates the men from the boys in the pickup world: hard work. The HD pickup game has gone on in strength and intensity over the past decade, with a three-way race between the Dodge Ram HD and its only rivals, the Ford F-series Super Duty and the Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra HD twins. Fittingly, Dodge brought us into the heart of the Lone Star State—San Antonio in particular—to sample its new Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty trucks where they’ve been tested the most.

When it goes on sale early next year, the big Ram Heavy Duty will be Chrysler’s first official new product launch of the year, the latest Ram light duty by the way — and the first since Fiat took the helm back in 2009. What we found was the Rammiest Rami is not only the heaviest Dutiest ever, but also the quietest and most comfortable HD truck we can remember.

The HD’s primary goal for this round, according to Chrysler, was to “become the ultimate SUV.” Yes, the scale is de rigueur with a fully restrained frame with coil springs built up front, but in place of the rear-end coil-springs found on the light-duty Ram 1500 are happier, more conventional leaf springs. No machines are too wimpy. A 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 with 383 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque is standard, and the really heavy, Cummins 6.7-liter inline six turbo-diesel returns with 350 hp and a monstrous 650 lb-ft. Gold, rear with a choice of six-speed manual or manual transmission offered. Axle ratios come in 3.42:1, 3.73:1, and 4.10:1 flavors for maximum torque. Payload capabilities range from 1,890 pounds to 5,110 pounds, depending on engine and body type; Towing capacity ranges from 8,150 pounds to 18,500 pounds.

Ram 2500/3500 (2010 2018) Hidden Winch Mount

There are hundreds of different cab, wheel, bathroom, power, and clavitrain configurations that were offered in the Ram Heavy Duty; Alas, we could only sample four of them, or five if you count the 3500 diesel dually that was loaded with 16,000 pounds of farm equipment on a dual axle trailer. It is clear that someone wanted to be patient but did not want to decline. When the weight of about a ton-tongue was pressed from the back, it fell more or less under control of the rock, and the slats were rather thrown by the load, which brought the tiger within a few pounds 25,400. the gross vehicle weight limit (up from 24,000 for 2009). In this case, however, the new exhaust system helped tremendously to keep us from gaining speed even on heavy descents to preserve our broken power when we really needed it.

Of the other Rams we’ve driven empty, we’ve noticed how closely the sprung HDs resemble their light-duty counterparts, which we’ve praised for their ride quality and responsiveness, mostly due to the coil-spring suspension. How did the new HDs do? Most of all, safe. There was indeed more weight, but Chrysler’s efforts to calm the skateboard deck of the loaded HD ship paid off. It features new C-pillar hydromounts that help soften the cab. But the steering is as dull and unresponsive mid-range as in the 1500, up to 15 degrees of steering wheel, so that those front wheels bite into turns (at which point they do so abruptly). The dampers are decent in feel and response, however, considering their size, they are rather lame.

The engines are predictably gutsy but surprisingly quiet. The 2500 Hemi V-8 is completely silent in operation, when not mashing the gas, and emits a delicious but still tame roar when floored. The Cummins-sourced turbo-diesel that comes with all Rams 3500s, on the other hand, is less than silent, yet one of the quietest diesels we’ve ever heard behind the wheel of a pickup.

Credit must go to the interior team, which not only paid the Ram Heavy Duty the same attention as the 1500 according to the sound system, but also gave it all the upscale storage and comfort amenities, including a list of options as long as the train. Two-tone leather seats, top-notch trim and padded seats, and faux wood trim the interior in a way that few HD drivers have ever experienced. The center display provides comprehensive travel and vehicle-related information.

Long Term Test: 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 Laramie Mega Cab 4×4 Diesel

Even more useful for working types are the gabillion storage cubbies found throughout the massive trunk, including a two-piece glove box and center console, as well as bins under the rear floor. The Crew Cab replaces the shorter Quad Cab next year, finally replacing Dodge’s four-door truck with real rear legroom in addition to the still-available Mega Cab and more space. Unfortunately, the Ram Heavy Duty is not available with the Ram 1500 nifty Ram Box in the storage room areas.

Outwardly, of course, Aries Heavy Duty brings a pile of bad ass. The hood is several inches taller than the non-HD Rams, and the front bumper is cut out a bit more. The body is otherwise unchanged, except for the clear headlamps and rear bumper of the dual models, which now extend beyond the wheels into pontoon-like, full-height fenders.

For those who just can’t handle machismo (or nostalgic Simon and Simon fans), the 2500 power truck returns for 2010, with a graphic wrap, two-inch life, 32-inch BFGoodrich off-road tires; Bilstein shocks, electronically locked front and rear differentials and anti-roll bars, underbody protection, and a 4.56:1 axle ratio for improved off-road capability.

Due to the large weight of the heavy-duty pickup truck, fuel-economy figures are not required by the EPA and are almost never released. But we can report that on our first leg over a thousand miles in a well-equipped, one-wheel drive 3500 cab crew, the trip computer showed an average of 14.1 mpg.

Ram 3500 Project Truck

Given the 2010 Rami Heavy Duty, three styles of pickups (regular, crew, and Mega) two cargo boxes (six feet by four and eight feet), single and dual-rear wheel shapes, and five grades (ST, SLT, TRX., Power Wagons and Laramie), there is a plethora of construction combinations, and prices will therefore vary wildly. The base price of the stripped-down 2500 is $28,165, while the 3500s start at just over $35,000. However, the 3500 Mega Cab duals in Laramie trim with the Cummins turbo-diesel start at more than $51,000, making them possible. at $60,000 with all the bells and whistles. For buyers who need the ability, such a trade could pay off that investment in short order. We don’t fall into the category, but maybe we need to find a passenger car and road-test the new Ram Heavy Duty on the way to the stadium. With our long-term fleet in tow. This new Zone Offroad 8″ suspension system for the 09-13 Dodge Ram 2500 & 09-12 Dodge Ram 3500 is performance packed and budget friendly for those looking for 37″ tires under HD Shocks truck. The lift uses a unique control arm relocation design. Both the upper and lower arms of the stock are positioned to ease the angles, provide proper front axle positioning and good triple and front angle fin settings. The 1/4″ steel relocation brackets mount directly to the stock locations and require only a few new holes to be drilled for extra support. No cutting of limbs or pile axis is required. Stock alignment adjustability is retained. Stock control arm angles are supported for great ride, handling and control.

Apart from the arm hooks for control, all necessary accessories are included. Full length coilovers, lower pitman arm, lever relocation, carriage relocation and bump stops are included. The rear kits feature new lift blocks and u-clamps. A rear carrier drop bearing kit is available for some trucks with a 2-piece rear driveshaft.

What are the types of shocks that come with the 8″ lift kit. Do you make this kit that fits the 5.7 hemi or the 8 inch kit for the 2016 ram 2500 with the 6.4L hemi gas engine?
