Tool Storage (storage above the display if you don’t have Nav). I was able to remove the storage box easily by removing the red liner and unscrewing two screws. I decided where I could drill a hole to pass the wires through to get to the power outlet under the CD slot and maybe put a divider behind it to hide the wires.
I tried to pull on the radio and some of it was moving about to come out but I didn’t want to apply too much pressure – I couldn’t find any screws.
If you remove the radio, you may need to know the security code before it can work again. (probably worth knowing)
I thought about doing that too, but then decided it would be easier to bury the wires on the side (behind) the edge of the silver/chrome trim that is on the side of the stereo. Easier, “really” missing. Much easier – but certainly not as smooth.

I didn’t know that a security code was needed, going to search around – and hopefully someone here has more info on this.
Just posting what I found online as a reference for others – I don’t have the tools and have tried with plastic string with no success – and I don’t want to try too hard and risk damaging something so I’ll buy a tool and try again.
1. Use a plastic bladed pry tool to release the retainer clip securing the AM/FM stereo and clock and audio disc player radio to the panel. 2. Disconnect the electrical connections. 3. When replacing the radio control assembly, replace all necessary components. This is an old thread, you may not get a reply, and it may revive an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes to see if it returns to normal, if not, check the voltage at the radio plug, If there is voltage, you have a bigger problem
I removed the battery and waited 5 minutes and tried it but nothing happened. Where is the radio plug? Do I have to remove the radio or the dash?
Well, I’d double check the fuses first but if you’ve already done that, here’s a video that might help with getting into the stereo plug. https://youtu.be/ApVyLEXNrgg I hope this helps
Husband brought home his 2012 Chevy Equinox tonight. No radio or cell phone. The radio information stopped on the screen as the car pulled away. When I started the car the screen was still on. No fan heater either. I solved the whole problem by pressing the phone icon on the rear view mirror. A beautiful female voice was heard saying, “The call is over, goodbye.” Everything is back to normal.

I know it’s a bit late to give you the solution (to the poster), but this is useful for anyone who has this problem especially for equinox, and other radios with MYLINK feature. I have a chevy equinox 2013 LT2, anyway, my radio stopped doing nothing, it means the screen will go off, it won’t work, so you won’t see anything, you can control weather control. miss the show. and about that you will lose power to the usb , i took it to the dealer, 100$ diagnostic fee to tell me that my radio is not working when they tried to plug it into their scanner, it means that you need a replacement radio, asking $800 for a new radio, and $500 for labor. The total of $ 1300 Canadian dollars. So if this happens to you, don’t agree to have it repaired at the dealer, my advice is to go buy a trim tool, for the prey in plastic so you can open it yourself, check the radio, don’t take it at the dealer. and spend money, start to remove the side of the central console, the mounting tool, then remove the uppermost part, above the screen, where the speaker hole is connected to it, just force it up and cut the plastic cable. by twisting it and pulling it. Remove the plastic control unit, the one with the buttons and all, and remove the wiring harness. The screen will stay there so you don’t have to remove anything there, then remove the bottom like an open glove box where the port is and after that (remember to turn on the light and remove the device. the way to D (drive) so you can get out) once, turn the gear back to P (park), disconnect the 2 wires for the charger unit. Start by removing all the 7mm socket screws near the radio. I’m sure you can see it, then you need to pull the radio out and wiggle it out of there to get it out, when you get it out you can check that all the wires are properly attached, you can check one by one to see if the screen works , of course you have to turn the ignition on to power up the radio to see if it works after trying to rewire. if the radio is still off, and there is nothing on the screen, get the radio part number from the radio, and take a picture of the back of the radio with the plugs
