2014 Chevy Reaper For Sale

2014 Chevy Reaper For Sale – Last week’s tease promised a lot, but delivered on the reveal, not much. Sure, the performance boost is great, but whenever you mention the word “mower,” we expect something sinister.

To be fair, the work done by Southern Comfort Automotive and Lingenfelter should not be shortchanged. We just assumed it would be a little darker than what was presented. It’s aero kit is pretty complete thanks to the Southern Comfort and Supercharged Reaper package.

The former is responsible for the updated look of the Silverado. Yes, it does look quite different from the standard Silverado, which we can attribute to the front fascia’s redesigned grille, which makes the hood look a bit longer than normal into the trapezoidal grille. Note that it’s also different compared to the standard Silverado’s rectangular grille.

Also installed on the Silverado is a new light system, in this case the Rigid Industries Integrated Flood Light System and LED Daytime Running Lights. That’s a short way of saying that Reaper has a scarier light. Speaking of awesomeness, the kit includes a rocker guard, side steps, auxiliary switch panel, Reaper gauge package, custom-stitched headliner, custom Reaper graphics, and serial Reaper badging.

Taken together, the program is really intense, but somehow Southern Comfort Automotive forgot that black, maybe even matte black, is much more beautiful than red on the Silverado.

As for Lingenfelter’s involvement, the tuning company known for its Corvette programs produced two sets of upgrades for the Reaper Silverado. The less powerful of the two is the 5.3-liter V-8 EcoTec 3 engine, which now pumps out 475 horsepower compared to the standard unit’s 355 horsepower. The larger version of the two has a 6.2-liter V-8 EcoTec 3 engine. From the Silverado’s standard 420 horsepower output, Lingenfelter’s TVS1900 Magnuson Supercharger boosted output to 550 horsepower.

Finally, suspension work is done courtesy of Fox Racing to improve the pickup’s overall durability, while the exhaust comes from Corsa.

Overall, the mechanical and performance specs of the Chevrolet Silverado Reaper are what we see. To be fair, the list of upgrades is something we like to see on the Silverado.

Compared to the all-black outfit, the red pickup truck named “Reaper” doesn’t excite us.

The new generation Silverado was introduced for the 2014 model year. It received significant updates on the exterior, interior and under the hood, transforming it into the “strongest, smartest and most capable Silverado ever.”

The 2014 Silverado has a choice of three new EcoTec3 engines: a 4.3-liter V-6, a 5.3-liter V-8, and a 6.2-liter V-8, with power ratings ranging from 285 to 420 horsepower.

Kirby’s first introduction to the world of cars was when he was a five-year-old boy and saw Knight Rider on TV. David Hasselhoff didn’t make much of an impression on him (that happened later in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that one day he will have a “ghost” car like the original KITT (not the 2008 monster). He doesn’t know when, but until then, he’ll express his love for KITT, and all the cars for that matter, here and there. When the Chevrolet Silverado Reaper was unveiled last week at the 2014 North American Dealer Association Conference in New Orleans, Chevrolet dealers paid close attention. And some random attention from car enthusiast sites and blogs ahead of the official launch. As the Ford F-150 Raptor SVT officially enters its final year of production, the truck’s unveiling comes at a good time for Chevrolet dealers. Although many expect the new 2015 F-150 to offer a Raptor or a Raptor-like version, it could be a year or two before its successor is introduced.

We wanted to look a little deeper into the origins of the Reaper project and the partnership between Lingenfelter Performance Engineering and Southern Comfort Automotive, a well-known local performance tuner, in light of the strategic partnership between Yankee engineering know-how and Southern style. We spoke with Mike Copeland, LPE’s Vice President of Operations, about how the Reaper came to be and what the plans are for the truck moving forward.

Copeland says the idea for an off-road Silverado started in 2012 when he learned that the all-new K2XX series trucks were coming soon. The company initially planned to make all design and performance upgrades in-house. The concept’s original name was T-Rex, and it was envisioned to compete with the Roush and Shelby-tuned versions of the Ford Raptor. Lingenfelter took delivery of the first 2014 truck in May 2013 and immediately began developing the engine performance package. With the Magnacharger on the 5.3-liter EcoTec V-8, the truck managed 13.89 mph at 100 mph, even with a 3.08 wheelbase.

While Lingenfelter was pushing his T-Rex project full speed ahead, Ken Lingenfelter received a call from Michael McSweeney of Southern Comfort Automotive in Trussville, Alabama. Southern Comfort was working on their customized Silverado and called on Lingenfelter to improve the truck’s performance. After a lengthy call between Lingenfelter and McSweeney, Copeland and Lingenfelter flew to Alabama to see what the company was working on. Impressed by Southern Comfort’s aggressive design for the Silverado, the two companies decided to join forces on the Reaper truck.

At first glance, the Raptor is the Reaper’s most obvious competitor, but Copeland points out differences in approach. “The Raptor is a factory truck. [OEMs] can use a lot of resources and spend a lot of money to develop something.” But Copeland doesn’t think Lingenfelter or Southern Comfort are necessarily disadvantaged by factory-built efforts. We don’t have the advantage of a huge budget, we don’t have hundreds of trucks to use for construction, but we can move quickly and make decisions quickly.

Like the Raptor, the Reaper uses Fox racing shocks. Some more cynical observers might see this as a copycat move, but Copeland says he chose Fox dampers because “they’re the best in the business.” Other suspension components were developed by Ridetech due to their experience developing military suspension systems. Fox, Ridetech and LPE worked together to develop the Reaper’s suspension.

Dealer response to the Reaper at the NADA show was strong, with Southern Comfort pre-selling several units and signing new dealers who expressed interest in selling the Reaper. It will be a package
