2015 Chevy Reaper Truck Upgrade – DALLAS -High-strength steel makes the Chevrolet Silverado lighter, stronger and more efficient than the standard carbon steel used in most cars. Those features are reflected in the new Silverado Toughnology alloy wheels.
The concept also showcases Silverado’s advanced technology — including the all-new OnStar 4G LTE and Wi-Fi hotspot — as well as accessories and parts available through Chevrolet dealers.
2015 Chevy Reaper Truck Upgrade
“Advanced steel technology makes the Chevrolet Silverado tough, light, capable and efficient – and that’s exactly what the Toughnology concept stands for,” said Jeff Luke, chief engineer. “In the development of the Silverado, we evaluated all the components and selected those that would provide the best power support capabilities while providing the best value for customers.

“The heavy-duty hardware had a noticeable advantage and contributed to the overall design that made the Silverado the 2014 North American Truck of the Year.”
High-strength steels, which are pressed while still in the electric range, can be up to 30 percent lighter than carbon steels of the same strength. It offers significant savings at a lower cost than aluminum, helping to reduce the overall cost of the vehicle. Lighter weight means better performance and efficiency for truck owners.
The 2015 Silverado with the EcotTec3 5.3L V-8 engine is EPA rated at 23 mpg on the highway and offers a mileage of 11,200 km/h, per the recently adopted SAE J2807. With the available 6.2L V-8 engine and all-new eight-speed automatic transmission, the Silverado’s trailer capacity increases to 12,000 pounds.
The Silverado Toughnology concept wears its most durable steel under the skin, as does the entire performance system. About 67 percent of every Silverado’s cabin is constructed of durable materials, including high-strength steel. It is used in A-pillars, B-pillars, rockers and rails, and important parts in the interior. Ultra-high-strength steel is used in the rocker and underbody parts to help improve crash performance.

The 2015 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab model earned a 5-star rating — the highest rating — in federal crash tests.
The lightweight power comes to the Silverado pickup truck’s trunk, where the floor is made of steel. It is more durable than standard stamped steel used by other manufacturers and is lighter than materials used in stamped parts, reducing the weight of the car.
The Silverado also uses aluminum trim, including the hood, which saves 17 pounds over the standard stamped steel.
“We put the best tools to use where they will do the most good,” Luke said. “Every panel, front and rear, is designed to support the Silverado’s capabilities and maintain its position as America’s most reliable, durable truck.”

The Toughnology concept is amazing because of its appearance. The paint job mimics the look of raw, unpainted steel and features a textured finish. The hood – the only visible non-metallic exterior trim – is painted black.
A black and chrome rear spoiler complements the green trim, along with Chevrolet Accessory Kits of 22 inches mounted on off-road tires. Special features include:
Performance enhancements include an operating system and upgraded performance brakes. Under the hood is an air intake system for its 5.3L engine with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.
Inside, the Silverado Toughnology wears LTZ trim, including heated, leather-appointed seats. It also features an available rear entertainment system with Silverado’s latest connectivity options, including OnStar 4G LTE and a Wi-Fi hotspot and a wireless charging pad that charges phones via magnetic charging.

OnStar is available with 4G LTE and built-in Wi-Fi that provides a mobile connection for drivers and passengers to stay connected. The hotspot is available for as long as the drive is active and comes with a three-month/three-gigabyte data trial (whichever comes first). 4G LTE is the latest and fastest data network – 10 times faster than 3G and 100 times faster than previous OnStar devices.
