2019 Chevy 1500 Black Widow Topfull – The Chevrolet brand was founded in November 1911, and six years later, introduced its first truck, the 1918 One-Ton. At a media event in Dallas, Texas, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the brand’s first truck, the automaker also unveiled the redesigned, 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
According to GM, the Silverado is “new from the ground up” and using the largest customer research in the company’s history, the truck was developed using feedback from more than 7,000 people. It will use lighter materials such as high-strength steel to reduce overall weight, which will have a positive impact on performance, handling and fuel economy.

The new pickup’s front fascia boasts the trademark — but more stylish — Chevrolet grille, and retains its typically square shape. However, there are new character lines on the truck’s flanks, such as one that starts at the top of the front turn signals, drops slightly as it approaches the front doors, and flows directly under the door handles to the rear wheel arches. Another line starts just above the front door handle and goes straight down to the top of the taillight.

At launch, eight variants of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will be available, including the new LT Trailboss trim. It will be equipped with the brand’s Z71 suspension package with a two-inch ride height lift. No word yet on the powertrain and other technical details, but as usual, we can expect a V6 engine and one of two V8s. The Silverado will make its public debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January — at the same time as its rival, the 2019 Ram 1500.
Electrical shorts that threaten to cause fires are familiar to many Hyundai and Kia owners, as evidenced by the various recalls to date. This week, after more than 285,000 2020-2022 model year Palisade and Telluride SUVs in the U.S. found themselves in that position…
Introduced into production last fall, the all-new Fisker Ocean Electric Crossover can now be pre-ordered by reservation holders in Canada. We also know how much it costs. There are four trim levels to choose from, including Sport, Ultra, Extreme and One (the entry version). The Ocean Sport starts at $43,999,…
As we reported last week, the Dodge Charger and Challenger will no longer exist in their current form after the 2023 model year, but not before the company releases seven “last call” special-edition models. Today we can tell you about the first one. Inspired by the original Dodge Shakedown Challenger…

Setting up our winter tire ratings at the end of last winter was not easy due to the various COVID-19 measures. Since the curfew was still in effect, we had little time during the day to reach our locations. Furthermore, we had to move some tests to the Outaouais…
The new 2023 Type R made its official debut in July at a special event in Los Angeles. However, there are many things we don’t know about the car. Yesterday, the official brochure in Japan somehow leaked online … 2019 promises to be an important year in the full-size pickup segment, as the new generation of two main fighters – the Ram 1500 and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 – will arrive. GM decided to showcase its pickup’s qualities on Canada’s newest highway, connecting Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk in the Arctic Circle. This 138-kilometer dirt road was inaugurated in November after four years of construction, and the Tundra became the ideal place to test the 2019 Silverado’s claims.
This segment is a true clash of the titans, so it’s no surprise that the manufacturer studied the competition when preparing this generation of Silverado. Comparisons are inevitable, so let’s start by looking at how the updated Silverado sets itself apart.
Style-wise, you’re unlikely to confuse it with the previous generation. It features a completely redesigned, aggressive front end with slim lights set atop the grille. This gives the vehicle a lot of personality, especially in the off-road versions, which come with red tow hooks that fans appreciate a lot.

The liftgate, prominently emblazoned with the Chevrolet logo, is more angular than before. In some versions, you can now automatically decrease and increase it from within. The footwells on the rear bumper are back, but larger to accommodate even the largest boot sizes. It’s a shame the MultiPro liftgate and carbon fiber bed are exclusive to the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. We really like the integrated dual exhaust at the bottom of the rear bumper—another nice touch that makes the Silverado more attractive than the Ford F- 150
The Silverado’s primary objective is to steal market share from the Ram 1500, which set the benchmark for stylish, well-equipped and affordable variants. That job falls to the Custom Trail Boss Edition, which comes at a reasonable price and appeals to buyers looking for a more stylish model with better equipment. It comes with the Z71 package, raised suspension (two inches) and oversized 18-inch tires. Our test model had the optional rear arch and the effect was excellent. You can also get the LT Trail Boss which includes a glut of extra equipment.
While the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is going after the Ram and its most affordable versions, it also wants to steal market share from the F-150 and its higher-end versions. As such, the Silverado LTZ and High Country are tasked with competing with the best Ford has to offer, but we must say that the High Country’s cabin is still no match for the Ford F-150 Platinum. Neither the plastics, trim or overall layout give the same impression of luxury.
Trust your eyes: The new 2019 Silverado’s wheelbase is four inches longer, which translates to an extra inch of bed length and three inches of extra legroom for rear passengers. It’s roomy, but the floor is still not completely flat, despite improvements over the previous generation. A significant use of aluminum and lightweight materials helped to shave 204 kg (450 lb), which helped to increase the vehicle’s capabilities, which are now what the competition is offering.

GM also wants the Silverado to stand out with more developed engines. The base mill is still a 4.3-liter six-cylinder that produces 285 horsepower and can tow 8000 pounds. The big engine remains the 5.3-liter V8 that produces 355 horsepower. With dynamic fuel management and an eight-speed automatic gearbox, this engine can tow up to 11,600 pounds.
At the top of the line, there’s still a 6.2-liter V8. Not just for the more posh versions, it offers 420 horsepower to help you tow up to 12,200 pounds. Unfortunately, it is not available in Trail Boss versions, which created a competitor for the Ford F-150 Raptor.
Two new engines will also be offered later this year. GM is dabbling in turbocharging with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder that delivers nearly as much torque as the 5.3-liter V8. Its fuel efficiency can make it very popular, especially in Quebec where it allows you to avoid paying the annual tax on large-displacement engines. This applies to the 2.7-litre Ford EcoBoost. Finally, the most fuel efficient of the lot will be the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel six, mated to a 10-speed gearbox.
For the 138 km of this unpaved highway, the Silverado was at the top of its game. Despite the ubiquitous potholes, the chassis remained very rigid, while from the inside, it felt like we were driving on a paved road. GM’s edge over the competition is its comfortable ride, and this new generation just proves the point — especially where cabin soundproofing is concerned.

After shedding those unwanted pounds, the Silverado’s accelerations are now a bit quicker – by half a second, according to the manufacturer. The 5.3-liter engine remains efficient and delivers ample power. The eight-speed gearbox is smoother and more linear than the old one, and shifting is smooth. Fuel economy is one of GM’s strengths, and adding the latest technology to the 5.3-liter engine only made it better.
While Ram offers a rear coil spring suspension, GM has kept its rigid axle and leaf spring suspension. This is more effective when towing and loading the vehicle, but with the extreme lightness of modern-day beds, the rear of the vehicle bounces when going over bumps under normal driving conditions. It is always a question of compromise. Several turns on our ride gave us a chance to appreciate how precise the steering is in Auto mode, which automatically transfers torque to the front wheels when you lose grip, giving you a better sense of security.
New high-tech gadgets have been added, but what really caught our eye was the towing app that allows you to create trailer profiles with electric braking command settings, checklists and maintenance information. The backup camera always lets you see the trailer, and you
