The seats are heated and cooled leather with a heated folding/telescopic multifunction steering wheel. You also get forward collision warning, lane departure warning, hill descent warning and 4 auto. Below the large Chevy MyLink infotainment center with navigation is a 3-pin connector, 3 USB ports and 2 auxiliary power ports. When the Chevrolet Silverado Reaper was unveiled last week at the 2014 North American Dealer Association conference in New Orleans, it got a lot of attention from Chevrolet dealers — as well as some unintended attention from auto enthusiast sites and blogs ahead of the official reveal. The timing of the truck’s reveal comes at an opportune time for Chevrolet dealers as the Ford F-150 Raptor SVT enters its final year of officially announced production. While many expect a Raptor-type or Raptor-like version of the new 2015 F-150 to be offered eventually, there will likely be a gap of one to two years before we see its successor revealed.
Chevrolet Silverado Reaper: Raptor Harvester
We wanted to look a little deeper into the origins of the Reaper project and the collaboration between renowned domestic performance tuning company Lingenfelter Performance Engineering and Southern Comfort Automotive for this strategic collaboration of Yankee engineering know-how and Southern style. We spoke with Mike Copeland, VP of Operations at LPE, about how the Reaper came to be and what the plans are for the truck moving forward.
Copeland said the idea for the Silverado off-road performance vehicle began in 2012 when the company learned of the imminent introduction of the all-new K2XX series trucks. The company originally planned to make all styling and performance improvements in-house. The concept was originally called the T-Rex and was introduced as a rival to the Roush and Shelby tuned versions of the Ford Raptor. Lingenfelter received its first 2014 truck in May 2013 and immediately began developing engine power packages. With the Magnacharger on the 5.3-liter EcoTec V-8, the truck ran an impressive 13.89 quarter-mile at over 100 mph, even with the tall 3.08 axle gear.
While Lingenfelter was moving full speed ahead on his T-Rex project, Ken Lingenfelter received a call from Michael McSweeney of Southern Comfort Automotive located in Trussville, Alabama. Working on its own custom Silverade, Southern Comfort called on Lingenfelter to improve performance for the truck. After a long phone call between Lingenfelter and McSweeney, Copeland and Lingenfelter flew to Alabama to see what the company was working on. Impressed by the aggressive styling that Southern Comfort created for the Silverado, the two companies decided to join forces on the truck that would become the Reaper.
While the Raptor is the Reaper’s most obvious rival at first glance, Copeland points out differences in approach. “The Raptor is a factory-built truck. [OEMs] have an opportunity to use a lot of resources and spend a lot of money to develop something.” But Copeland doesn’t feel Lingenfelter or Southern Comfort are necessarily at a disadvantage from the factory effort. “We don’t have the benefit of huge budgets or hundreds of trucks to use for development, but we are able to move quickly and make decisions quickly.”

Like the Raptor, the Reaper uses Fox racing shocks. Some more cynical observers might consider it a copycat, but Copeland says the Fox shocks were chosen because “they’re the best in the business.” The rest of the suspension components were developed by Ridetech using their experience in developing suspension systems to military specifications. Fox, Ridetech and LPE worked together to develop the Reaper suspension.
Dealer response to the Reaper at the NADA show has been strong, and Southern Comfort has already sold several units and signed up new dealers who have expressed interest in selling the Reaper. The package will be offered on all Silverado cab configurations and will be covered by a three-year, 36,000-mile limited warranty on non-factory parts. Pricing is expected to start in the $50,000 range, with the final price depending on the personalization options the customer chooses. The company announced its new Chevrolet Silverado-based Reaper project at the National Automobile Dealers Association last Friday.
The 2014 Reaper is the result of a conversion kit that takes the average Silverado—already a good truck—and puts it on steroids, so to speak. Under the hood, the Reaper has a supercharged Lingenfelter V8 engine with a total output of 550 horsepower. That’s 139 more ponies than the Raptor, which makes 411 horsepower. Lingenfelter worked with Southern Comfort Automotive on the project.
The Reaper is armed with 20-inch beadlock wheels, a Fox Racing suspension system, a high ground clearance bumper, a reinforced skid plate and an integrated headlight system, all of which should help it handle any terrain at highway speeds.
Chevy Reaper For Sale
The Silverado spirit is obvious, but you’ll notice a redesigned front fascia and some graphics splashed across the rear that bear an uncanny resemblance to the Raptor’s bed design.
The expected price for the Chevrolet Reaper is estimated at $50,000 to $60,000. That’s a few bills more than the Raptor, which starts at $46,240, but don’t forget that there’s a significant increase in performance.

I’ve heard conflicting reports about this. I saw on jalopnik that they were talking about the 20’s but what he posted here says 17 inch bead lock.
These trucks are tough on a 35 because of the crappy fender opening shape…tall but boxy front and rear. Clearing a 35″ tire requires 5″ to 6″ of lift if you keep the factory sheet metal intact. This is a supercharged street truck with a 33″ “offroad” tire and some Fox shocks. Some magazines call it the Raptor Killer… that’s just stupid. While the GM Reaper may be faster on the pavement, it will dust the Raptor off-road.
My vote is most likely disco, but assuming this thing is real and goes into production, I think the price will be interesting. There is clearly a market for “discos”, if Chevy can make this thing and keep the cost down for the Raptor, maybe it could make it in the aftermarket.
