Chevrolet Silverado Rst Black Widow Topfull – After accelerating the reopening of Oshawa Assembly in Ontario to meet growing demand for pickup trucks in North America, General Motors today announced the addition of a second shift.

This comes just two months after the first Chevrolet Silverados rolled off the line at the upgraded plant, which benefited from a $1.3 billion investment.

For now, Oshawa only makes the Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD models. The Silverado 1500 will join them later, making Oshawa the automaker’s only plant capable of producing both heavy-duty and light-duty trucks.

Another thing you need to know is that Chevrolet is the only brand represented. GMC equivalents will continue to be produced in US factories.

“Adding a second truck production shift so soon after launch continues Oshawa’s long history of speed and agility and helps GM meet strong customer demand in its largest and most important market segment,” said Scott Bell, president and general manager of GM Canada.

The Chevrolet Silverado (including heavy-duty models) was the fifth best-selling vehicle in Canada last year, behind the GMC Sierra. Its sales fell 2.1 percent from 2020 as the chip shortage heavily impacted production.

Back in November, GM announced the hiring and training of 1,800 new workers, with a focus on diversity and gender equality. As a result, for the first time in the plant’s history, more than half of Oshawa’s new production hires are women.

Hyundai made a serious leap into the electric vehicle segment with the launch of THE Ionik 5 last year. Based on the E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) architecture that is slowly spreading across Hyundai/Kia/Genesis electric ambitions like the Genesis GV60 and Kia EV6, the Ionik 5 stood out… Can’t wait significantly refreshed and updated Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are coming 2022? As a reminder, production is planned to start this winter, and the first deliveries will follow in the spring.

Now we’ve learned that General Motors has decided to bring back the “Shorty” configuration with a regular two-door cab and a standard 6.6-foot cargo bed.

However, as spokespeople for the two brands confirmed to Car and Driver, customers will only be able to get it in the most basic trim levels, namely the VT in Chevrolet and the Pro in GMC.

Until now, the latest-generation Silverado and Sierra could only have a regular cab with an 8.1-foot cargo bed, as the standard bed was exclusive to double-cab and crew-cab models. The crew cab is also available with a short 5.8-foot bed.

Chevrolet Traverse: Bigger, Smaller, Better

The new configuration is aimed at the small percentage of pickup truck buyers who want the simplest form of work truck, meaning those who don’t need to carry more than three people and haul long items like plywood sheets.

Why not turn to a midsize pickup like the Colorado or Canyon instead? Because most of them still want the power, payload, or towing capacity of a full-size truck, that’s why.

Otherwise, Ford similarly offers the F-150 with a regular cab and a 6.5-foot bed in either XL or XLT trims. At Ram, there’s no such thing with the current-generation pickup truck, but you can order one with the Ram 1500 Classic.

Pricing for the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra will be announced at a later date. As a reminder, the former adds a new ZR2 model for off-road enthusiasts, while the latter adds Denali Ultimate and AT4X models. Both also have a much more modern interior (complete with an available 13.4-inch infotainment screen) and an upgraded four-cylinder engine with a lot more torque.

Rear window sticker. Full-size trucks are America’s best-selling vehicles, and the battle between them is closer than ever.

Trucks today can accelerate faster than sports cars like the Porsche 718 Caiman GT4 and can tow up to seven tons using conventional traction. It’s a lot of folding chairs and steel cages. The truck is the backbone of America. In 2019, pickup trucks accounted for over 3.1 million vehicle sales in the US, or more than the entire population of Iowa. Each of these trucks can handle classic pickups with ease, and if you haven’t already settled into the Toyota, Nissan, Ram, Chevy, or Ford camps, we’ve ranked the players in the segment from worst to best to help you in your search.

The Nissan Titan exists a little outside the mainstream in this segment. It lacks engine choices—there’s only one 400-hp V-8 option—which severely limits configurability compared to its competitors, and the Titan’s overall performance seems lacking. For 2022, Nissan even gave its base trucks a trailer hitch and spray-on bedliner. Even with these new standard amenities, the Titan is more choo-choo than chug. Its ride quality is poor and the handling lacks sharpness; look at the Pro-4X trim for off-road capability, but look everywhere else in terms of towing capacity as the Titan has the lowest in the light-duty class. Every model now has an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, something the fleet versions of its domestic competitors don’t have.

The Toyota Tundra finds itself in the unusual position of being the newest truck available in the full-size segment. The third-generation Tundra now offers a 437-hp twin-turbo hybrid V-6 mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Non-hybrid SR models make 348 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque, while other trims get a 389-hp version of the same engine. Its rear suspension is also completely new, replacing the old-style leaf springs with coil springs to give it a controlled ride. Tundra TRD Pro models come with skid plates, a suspension lift, and black wheels wrapped in solid all-terrain tires. Extended-cab models can be had with a 6.5- or 8.1-foot bed, while larger Crew Cab Tundras get a 5.5- or 6.5-foot bed. An 8.0-inch touchscreen is standard, but a large 14.0-inch screen is available, the largest in the class.

Maybe it was cold feet, maybe it was common sense, but after a 2019 redesign, Chevy has revised its Silverado 1500 again for 2022. The LT trim levels and up get a new face and a revised interior that includes a massive infotainment screen on the 13.4-inch touch screen. This helps differentiate the interior of the half-ton Chevy from other things in its lineup, like, say, the Equinox.
