Lingenfelter and Southern Comfort Automotive piqued our interest late last month with the digital unveiling of the Chevrolet Reaper, a custom Silverado designed to tackle some seriously tough terrain. While the vehicle made its initial debut at the North American Dealer Association show, the 2014 Chicago Auto Show marks our first in-person look, as well as the truck’s public debut.

The Reaper’s suspension features Fox Racing shocks and raises the truck three inches, providing increased ground clearance and suspension travel. The truck rides on 20-inch wheels wrapped in General Grabber tires, while both the 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8s benefit from Lingenfelter exhausts. A Magnuson TSV1900 supercharger is optional on both engines, as are 17-inch wheels.

SoCo and Lingenfelter also made some modifications to the overall look of the truck, giving it new bumpers, hood, grille and fenders. LED driving lights are standard, as are integrated off-road lights.

We’ve got a big gallery of live images from the Reaper’s Chicago debut, as well as the official video and press release from Southern Comfort Automotive and Lingenfelter below. Take a look, then tell us what you think of this big truck in the comments.

The company announced its new Chevrolet Silverado-based Reaper project at the National Automobile Dealers Association last Friday.

The 2014 Reaper is the result of a conversion kit that takes the average Silverado – already a good truck – and puts it on steroids, so to speak. The Reaper has a supercharged Lingenfelter V8 under the hood that develops a total of 550 hp. That’s 139 ponies more than the Raptor, which has 411 hp. Lingenfelter worked with Southern Comfort Automotive on the project.

The Reaper is armed with 20-inch wheels, a Fox Racing suspension system, a high-clearance bumper, a reinforced skid plate, and an integrated reflector system, all of which should help it handle any terrain at highway-caliber speeds.

The Silverado spirit is obvious, but you’ll notice a redesigned front fascia and some rear-sprayed graphics that are strikingly reminiscent of the Raptor’s bed design.

The expected price for the Chevrolet Reaper is estimated at $50,000 to $60,000. That’s a few bucks more than the Raptor, which starts at $46,240, but keep in mind that there’s been a significant increase in power.

The Reaper website confirms that the advanced Chevy conversion kits will be sold at select Chevrolet dealers nationwide. We expect to get a few more details regarding specs and pictures of the interior and exterior closer to the Chicago Auto Show. When he was teased last week, he promised so much, but when he was introduced, he delivered, well, not so much. Sure, the performance boost is impressive, but every time you mention the word “reaper,” we expect something ominous.

To be fair, the work that Southern Comfort Automotive and Lingenfelter have put in should not be diminished. We just expected it to be a bit darker than what was actually presented. That being said, the aero package is pretty comprehensive, thanks to the Southern Comfort and Supercharged Reaper package.

The former is responsible for the restyled look of the Silverado. Yes, it looks quite different from the standard Silverado, something we can attribute to the restyled front piston grille as it makes it look like the hood extends a bit further than usual into the trapezoidal grille. Notice that it’s also different compared to the standard Silverado’s rectangular grille.

A new lighting system has also been installed on the Silverado, which in this case is an integrated Rigid Industries Flood light system and LED daytime running lights. That’s a short way of saying Reaper has scary lights. Speaking of intimidation, the kit also includes a rock guard and side steps, auxiliary switch plate, Reaper gauge package, custom quilted headrest covers, custom Reaper graphics, and Reaper serial decals.

All together, the program is really intense, but somehow Southern Comfort Automotive forgot that black, maybe even matte black, is a far more imposing look on a Silverado than red.

As for Lingenfelter’s involvement, the tuning firm known for its Corvette programs produced two sets of upgrades for the Reaper Silverado. Less powerful than
