Gmc Denali 3500 Dually Lifted – A time warp, by definition, is an imaginary break in the flow of time that moves events from one time period to another. In theory, this could cause past, or future objects, to appear here in the present day. Like time travel, many people believe that creating something that wasn’t originally created is simply too outrageous or taboo, but Cesar Cornejo ignored his critics and decided to move forward with his dream of designing and building an original tandem dually straight from the future. We’ve all seen tandem-axle trucks from Mazdas and Nissans in the mini-truck world, but what we haven’t seen is a tandem-axle dually. So the Time Warp is able to combine ideas from both the past and the future.
Cesar was familiar with heavy-duty trucks in the construction business he was involved in, so when he wanted a heavy-duty, hard-working vehicle, buying a new ’18 GMC Denali 3500HD from the dealership made sense. Diesel is considered the workhorse of the GMC family, with a 6.6L turbodiesel V-8 with 445 hp paired with a six-speed transmission and a maximum payload of 7,153 pounds. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 23,300 pounds. When it comes to a full-performance beast like the GMC, Cesar envisions it to be tougher, more efficient, and an anomaly on show and in the workplace. With only 10 miles on the Denali’s odometer, it was taken south off-road for a brand new build.

The build got fun when the fenders were redesigned to fit double axles, and custom 5-ton Meritor axles were built by Differential Engineering. The axlehousings were modified so the ABS would still work, and the factory axles were narrowed 4 inches. For the suspension, Jeff Kelderman of Kelderman Air Ride was contacted and parts were pulled from the company’s many Air-Ride kits and custom mounts were designed. A Cognito 12-inch lift was mounted at the front and air-ride at the rear. Two four-links were created for the new tandem axles. In all, Jerry Harding and Dave Belzer spent about 450 hours on the suspension and assembly.

Once the suspension and tandem axle were complete, Cesar turned his attention to the exterior. He enlisted the Fab Fours (based on a good relationship in the past) and added front and rear bumpers. Hard lighting was mounted on the bumpers and a rigid lightbar was centered on the front bumper. A DB Customz grill was installed on it with a Denali. The rear rack was mounted on the bed and modified to fit the fuel cell to make room for the four-link. Bedsides were custom made from fiberglass to provide enough opening for the new axles.
To design the GMC to function as a true 6×6, there is an air actuator, which engages the driveshaft that exits behind the #2 axle and drives the #3 axle. To make the Denali function properly, Cesar upgraded the braking power using an SSBC larger brake kit and 19-inch Fab Fours rotors. Finally, Cesar contacted Jason Sandusky at American Force Wheels, who outfitted the tandem rig with six 28×16 American Force Trek Super Dual wheels and wrapped them in Fury tires.
Cesar maintains full use of the Tandem Duality for day-to-day work through his construction business. The GMC has been so stable and flawless, he brought it to Las Vegas for the SEMA show and proudly displayed what he did. The 2022 model is naturally pitted against its sibling, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD, which brings its own advantages and disadvantages to the table.
After a complete redesign of the GMC Sierra for the 2020 model year, the 2021 model received only a few detailing changes. This year is also changing less. An additional style of 20-inch alloy wheels is optionally available – a machined aluminum wheel with bolt pattern and high-gloss black accents. There are some changes to the color palette – there is a new color called Forest Metallic and two others (Brownstone Metallic and Carbon Black Metallic) have been removed. Finally, the base trim has been renamed to Pro. Other than these changes, the 2022 3500HD is consistent with the 2021 model.
The new Sierra 3500HD is bolder than ever: the front grill is bigger, and for 2022 it’s still flanked by a set of LED headlamps with the signature C-shape, which adds a modern touch to this absolute hulk of a truck. SLE models and above get a six-function multipro tailgate. SLT models and above get GMC’s Prograde Trailering System with an in-vehicle trailering app and an integrated trailer brake. AT4 models get a two-inch lift, and top-of-the-range Denali models get a bunch of chrome bits around the door handles, side steps and front grille. Denali models also get a deep tinted rear window, a polished exhaust tip, and smoked amber LED roof marker lights. Paint colors have been slightly altered; For example, Brownstone Metallic has been replaced by Forest Metallic and Carbon Black Metallic has been discontinued.
Like most trucks on the market today, buyers get an unlimited number of cab and bed configurations, so there are many dimensions on the list. For 2020, the Sierra 3500HD gets an all-new 6.6-liter gas V8 engine, which produces 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque available from 4,000 rpm. Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels, depending on the drivetrain configuration. The new V8 gets the job done, but needs revving before things start, which isn’t ideal for towing. If you’re serious about towing, you should go for the 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8 engine, which produces 445 hp and a massive 910 lb-ft of torque available from just 1,600 rpm. The diesel-powered trucks come with a ten-speed auto transmission. With all that torque on tap, the Regular Cab Heavy-Duty Diesel 2WD will max out at 36,000 lbs from the gooseneck hitch.
The 3500HD is never expected to be a canyon carver or a track weapon, but buyers of these trucks will expect solid, stable and predictable handling that doesn’t falter easily when hauling heavy gear. The new Sierra 3500HD feels comfortable and seamless cruising around town, and on the highway it feels planted, especially when you get dual tires on the back. GMC’s ProGrade Trailering System and Digital Variable Steering Assist, which automatically adjusts steering weight and responsiveness based on road conditions and speed, help keep things under control when there’s a heavy load in the back. Diesel trucks get exhaust braking, which helps with downhill speed-moderation.
The EPA doesn’t require gas mileage estimates for full-size trucks like the Sierra, but you can expect to see figures ranging from the low to high teens, depending on the configuration of the cab, bed, engine, and drivetrain.
