U-Haul’s growing cities are calculated by the net profit of one-way U-Haul trucks (ie, moving vans between 10 and 26 feet in size) arriving in a city versus leaving that city during a calendar year. Migration trends data is compiled from more than 2 million one-way U-Haul truck sharing transactions that occur annually in certain markets in Canada and contiguous US cities, packaged together for the purposes of U-Haul migration trends.
In 2020, people arriving in the North Bay in one-way U-Haul trucks are up 20%, while departures are up just 3% year over year. Arrivals accounted for 57.5% of all one-way U-Haul traffic in the North Bay, the fifth-highest growth in 2019.
“People are packing up U-Haul trucks and touring the North Bay,” said Wayne Curtis, president of U-Haul Company of Central Ontario. “The cost of living is low and the Ottawa government is sending jobs that way. It’s no surprise that North Bay is the number one U-Haul growth city in Canada.
Other notable arrivals were in Belleville (20%), Barrie/Orillia (22%), Vancouver (16%), Chilliwack (32%), Abbotsford (26%), Lethbridge (17%) and Nanaimo/Coombs (52%) .
With Car Rentals Impossible To Find, Some Are Resorting To U Hauls

BC and New Brunswick share the lead for the top-growing province, with each posting the same net profit in U-Haul trucks. BC is based on 2019 growth of 3.3% for arrivals compared to 2.6% for departures in 2020. New Brunswick, the net loss province in 2019, saw 22.7% more arrivals year over year than just 7.8% more. Departures.
Aside from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia (up 4.4% in arrivals, down 1.7% in departures) boasts the biggest turnaround since ninth in 2019.
While U-Haul’s migration trends aren’t directly linked to population or economic growth, the company’s growth data is an effective indicator of how well cities attract and retain residents.

When you’re young, getting around is as easy as grabbing a few friends for beer and pizza and borrowing someone’s pickup truck. Old age complicates the whole process. More stuff, a bigger family, fewer friends, and less energy, along with more fragile bones, make moving a real pain, so a trusty pickup truck might not be the best option for your needs. This is where moving companies come in.

It might not work if you’re moving to Hawaii, but it’s worth a shot. While its fleet isn’t as extensive as U-Haul’s Penske promises its trucks are the latest in the business, so you’ll have a nice clean ride to your destination. Penske truck sizes include:
In addition to a generous rental policy for one-way trips, Penske offers several discount programs, including AAA discounts, military discounts and college student rates.
U-Haul is the most recognizable name in moving trucks, and for good reason. The company’s over-the-top paint and low advertised prices make it impossible to ignore. There’s also no shortage of U-Haul’s physical footprint, as the company operates stores in every state and many include self-storage services, trailer rentals and retail operations with rolling stock. U-Haul says it’s working with truck manufacturers to design cargo floors and other components that serve residential rather than commercial purposes.
What Size Moving Truck Do You Need?
U-Haul doesn’t offer as many discount programs as others, but the company’s massive fleet of vehicles means it’s less sensitive to price changes related to demand. It’s also important to note that more choices mean you’re more likely to find the truck you want.
You may know Budget as the airport car rental company, but it also offers moving trucks nationwide from its extensive network. Budget’s cost per mile can be half or more of its competitors, making it one of the best values and an excellent choice for local commuting. That said, the math doesn’t remain as compelling for long trips.

Two Men and a Truck is not a rental service as the company provides full service moving, home staging and many other related services. However, if you’re looking to move and have doubts about how you’ll be able to get the job done on your own with a few beers and pizza-motivated friends, a company like Two Men and Truck can be your lifesaver. If you need storage and other services, two men’s locations offer solutions. We chose the company because of its popularity and wide availability, but you can find a local moving company with better rates and nicer service.
While it’s nice to have someone move for you, it’s important to remember that costs can add up quickly. If you need boxes, moving fragile items or other specialized services, the bill you see at the end of your move can be shocking. Of course, convenience is an upgrade that many people are willing to pay for.
Hiring a moving truck is certainly not the most fun thing to spend money on, but some companies make it easier than others. Penske and U-Haul are two of the biggest names in the business because they simplify the process and are big enough to fix problems when they go wrong. That said, fine print
