With the great design and great quality you’ve come to expect from CST, this kit continues to be one of our most popular! Picture this: a “Utility Yellow” Chevy 3500 stake-bed truck, formerly owned and operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Imagine the neglect and rust you would expect to find underneath and inside, thanks to a life lived hard and wet. Think “Government Fleet Vehicle”-spec trim and complete lack of features of any kind, including a vinyl seat and vinyl floor. It refuses to start without ether or compressed air in the fuel tank. You take it for a test drive, and it loads up on fuel and rolling coal, and doesn’t seem to stop. The duct-taped seat pulls apart; You peel back the tape only to find a stuffed penguin holding up the seat where foam
No? Well, the story is different for Sean Vevea of Nashville, Tennessee. In 2012, Sean found such a truck irresistible, and with it started a construction that continues to this day, almost nine years later. Although it was only in March 2014 that progress began, it was a concept that had been with Sean for a long time: a packed and physically fallen double proved too tempting for some to ignore. 24.5 inch Alcoa semi-truck wheels shod under the factory body is a sight we find
The beginnings of construction were admittedly a bit slow: not much progress was made in the first year or two. When he bought the Alcoa wheels, however, they began to turn, and momentum began to build. By May 2014, Sean installed a Little Shop MFG front control arm setup and air suspension in the nose of the 3500, along with the wheels, after lowering them to 24″ and pairing them with 24″ Lexani tires. In July, a real teardown began: Sean removed the truck’s bed and, using an old Extensive 2-link kit, reconfigured the truck’s rear suspension. The build used custom bridge and notch work to make the truck sit low, and then the truck was driven around, fully bagged, for several years.
In the end, though, it was envy that got the best of Sean. A California buddy with a body dropped Ford double had clearly won a non-existent competition, a feeling far too familiar to many of us.

Sean says honestly, but it was that feeling that fueled a body drop of his own. A traditional 3″ body drop along with cab mounts dropped another 2.5″ leading to a loss of headroom in the truck, but it was the best Sean could achieve in his small home garage. The firewall was steamed, the bed was redone and the cab was trimmed…by September 2016 the truck was once again drivable.
For most, that would probably be enough, but Sean can’t leave “enough” alone. In January 2019, after a move to Nashville, he once again tore into the truck, this time to do a significant part of the work he did before, this time with a donor truck to solve the defects . Using 2″x5″ steel, he began the process by building a custom frame from the firewall to the rear notch so the floor of his new donor cab could stay stock and retain as much headroom as possible. On the other hand, however, there was considerable work to be done to keep the LB7 Duramax diesel from under the hood. Custom mounts and oil pans, both upper and lower, moved the engine an inch and a half, giving needed hood clearance. A custom transmission and driveshaft tunnel were also built, allowing the entire system to be removed, a hurdle he defines as perhaps the most difficult aspect of the build in its entirety.
“Building it in a small 2 car garage, having to lift the cab with a motor and roll it on dollies when it was in my way…”
“There are so many components in a common rail diesel truck that even though there seems to be a lot of space, there really isn’t any space.”

One of the major improvements made during the rebuild was a transplant of the bodywork to the interior of Sean’s 2003 LT-trim donor truck. The updated belt allows provisions such as power windows and locks, as well as luxuries such as heated seats. Although the interior in the truck is now just factory, the ’03 LT guts are a significant improvement over the old and tired fleet truck innards the truck was originally equipped with.
The rear end of the truck now uses a trailer arm setup, built by Sean himself. The arms span 56″ and are built from cut and packaged 1/4″ plate steel, and are paired with a custom Watts link and some framework. The front end still sports the Little Shop kit, which features a custom tie rod setup, also built by Sean, to solve a common weak link area of similarly built trucks. Air lift performance 3H management
Are just the most technologically advanced part of the truck, with height sensors on all four corners for total digital control of the truck’s general attitude and performance.
The original yellow color of the truck was painted green well before Sean owned it, but with a white donor cab on hand, Sean began the process of hunting for white bed sides to match. The front clip, tail gate and rear bumper we all eventually painted white, resulting in the incredible “white whale” Sean drives today, which brings us to 2020: Sean’s truck, finally complete if only for now, is an incredible piece of machinery. With lug nuts touching the fender arches, it’s undoubtedly as good as a GMT800 gets. While he longs for a custom interior and another chance at custom paint, we hope he’s as happy with his own work as we are. If not, we’re excited to see what comes next, but at worst he can rest assured that his current point of progress in an ongoing build will no doubt inspire at least one future wrencher… and it does all worth it.DETROIT – The new 2015 Chevrolet Silverado HDs are engineered to be stronger, smarter and more confident than ever.

“Heavy-duty pickups are tools that people use to pull heavy trailers and haul large loads,” said Jeff Luke, executive chief engineer. “A great tool like the new Silverado HD pickup not only gets the job done, it makes the job easier, and helps you feel more confident tackling the really tough jobs.”
Silverado HD’s all-new exterior communicates strength and ability, while also improving aerodynamics for improved efficiency and reduced wind noise, It also improves cooling for more consistent power under harsh conditions.
“The passion we have for trucks is reflected in every line and powerfully sculpted machined surface of the HD Chevrolet,” said Tom Peters, design director. “From the dramatic sculpting of the one-piece structural bumper, to its muscular hood and side profile, the design reflects a function-driven solution.”
The design of the 2015 Silverado HD is as much about brains as brawn. New built-in doors that fit into cutouts in the body side help reduce wind noise for a quieter cabin. The smallest details of the body, such as the roof and the rear spoiler, were tuned in a breeze
